Continuing on the theme of safety and security, this week we’ll take a look at rigging and provide a brief overview of how that fits into the responsibility for a planner to assure thattheir attendees are safe and comfortable during their time spent at the event.

Strategic Meeting Tech Podcast Show #10 - Event Safety - a brief look at the role of a Fire Marshal8/3/2016
Just this week there’s been some discussions in the news relating to room capacity at some political events. We’re non-political here on the podcast, but it started us thinking about the role of a fire marshal and the greater subject of event safety in general.
When you’re planning an event a part of your responsibility is to make sure that the attendees are safe and comfortable during their time spent at the event. This can touch on a few areas, but today we start with a brief overview of the role of Fire Marshals and their responsibility for helping to keep your attendees safe. On this weeks show, Jon talks about elements that a planner can document and verify to improve the quality of the conversation with their potential VA vendors.
Things like loading dock locations, ceiling heights and windows can have an effect on your event and your budget. So, knowing about them early can be vital to a successful event. In this episode of the podcast we talk with one of the presenters who will be at the upcoming CMP Conclave in Baltimore.
Brandt Krueger, the owner of Event Technology Consulting is one of the "go to" speakers in the meetings industry on a variety of AV and technology topics. He's been published on numerous industry websites, spoken at events ranging from the recent MPI WEC in Atlantic City to last year's CMP Conclave in Reno (and dozens more). He also currently teaches classes via the Event Leadership Institute. In this episode we preview his session set for Baltimore on Projection Mapping. The session will focus on creative uses of video mapping to create amazing effects that come at a reasonable cost compared to some of the multi-million dollar effects we've seen used by major companies like Disney. He'll provide some great resources and insights into how adding this technology to an event can provide a great return on the costs while creating an unforgettable audience experience. The first episode of the brand new Strategic Meeting Tech Podcast will be available on our linked podcast site tomorrow. After that you can expect to see a new podcast each week where we will discuss trending topics, technology and other stories that affect all of us in the meetings and events industry.
Hosted by Jon Trask, CMP, CMM; a radio journalist and a former co-host of the ground-breaking "Meetings Podcast" for nearly 10 years. The Strategic Meetings Tech Podcast aims to become a go-to source for news inside the meetings industry. We have a slate of solid guests already lined up, as well as some very interesting previews of the CMP Conclave, The CIC Hall of Leaders, an update from MPI, and looks ahead to IMEX America and LDI all coming up over the next few months. Please drop us a note or comment with any areas that you'd like to have covered. This is intended as a conversation and not a monologue, so tell us what you want hear about and we'll do our best to cover it. It's a bit intimidating thinking about starting a new blog or podcast.
It's taking the first step on a new journey, and journeys can be a mixed blessing. They can be filled with danger and unexpected events, or they can be filled with discovery and wonder. You never know exactly where the road will take you. I've spent many years doing a podcast already, but that has been done as a group effort; and as with anything involving multiple voices and opinions, there are always a few compromises along the way. I've also spent a number of years working on a specific type of internet service business within the meetings industry. A new type of business that received terrific buzz and comments, and yet somehow didn't resonate in the way that we've expected. And as time passes on that journey, it's been a struggle to take that company into the places that we envisioned it going to help planners and vendors. So, while I remain involved in both of those endeavors; this blog and podcast (and ultimately this entire website) is intended as a way for me to share my voice and my specific goals with an audience who are interested and willing to listen. It may be one, or it may be one thousand, only time will tell. It's also a way to see if working with smaller group of planners on a more direct and personal level is the alchemy needed to advance the ideas behind my previous work. (But, that's a topic for a future post/podcast.) In the end, I feel that the best conversations are personal involving one or multiple commentators, and not done as some sort of lecture without any interaction back. So I hope that if you're reading this you'll always speak up and engage in a real conversation with me as this site grows and evolves. Here's a few questions to get us started: What technology/meetings industry topics do you want to discuss? What guests would you like to hear from? How can we make this a place that is useful, informative and helpful? Let me know what you think, and lets begin a journey together and see where the road leads. |
